Kotaku editor Zach Zwiesen decided to verify recent statements by a Sony marketer who said that the launch lineup of the PS5 is one of the best in the company’s history. To do this, Zwiesen compared all five Playstation and counted the number of available games at console launch.

It turns out that the marketer from Sony, to put it mildly, lied – in reality the PS5 has one of the worst launch lines in the history of Playstation:

PS1
Total games: 12
Exclusives: 7

PS2
Total games: 29
Exclusives: 21
Cross-gen game: 4

PS3
Total games: 14
Exclusives: 6
Cross-gen game: 8

PS4
Total games: 25
Exclusives: 4
Cross-gen game: 18

PS5
Total games: 10
Exclusives: 3
Cross-gen game: 5

By the total number of games PS5 is in last place, as well as the number of exclusives. Only in cross-gen games the console got out in third place, overtaking PS1, which could not have them in principle, and PS2, which was only one position behind, while totally dominating in the other categories.

It is also worth mentioning that the PS2 in this case, within a year after the launch has received in its library of such powerful exclusives (at that time) as Grand Theft Auto III, ICO and Metal Gear Solid 2.

Thus, PS2 has once again confirmed its iconic and undeniable status as one of the best consoles from Sony.
